The Mullica Township Maniacs, a 14-and-under fast-pitch softball team, defeated the Virginia Beach Galaxy 3-2 in extra innings in the National Softball Association’s Eastern Nationals World Series in Roanoke, Va.

The Maniacs were down 2-0 until the bottom of the seventh where they tied it up 2-2. Brigitte Garvey singled and then Taylor Tesslor doubled, putting runners at second and third. Kelly Lupton then had a two run single to tie the game.

With the international tie breaker rule in the eighth inning, Bridgett Allesandrini started on second base. Taylor Gleason sacrificed her to third, and Allesandrini then scored on a passed ball to win the game.

Winning pitcher Chelsey Peterson had seven strikeouts.

This was the Maniacs’ final game of pool play. They now enter the double-elimination round today at 9 a.m. against Vienna Starz of Virginia.
