From TheDailyRecord.com — New Jersey announced how it will spend $892.4 million from the federal stimulus funds on highway and transit construction projects Thursday.

The funds include $469 million in Department of Transportation projects for roads, bridges and other maintenance, which the state plans to begin spending within 120 days and mostly complete within a year, and $423.4 million in New Jersey Transit projects.

Not included are an additional $162 million for county and local transportation priorities and $19.5 million for other transportation enhancements projects.

“Through the flow of funds to projects that can start in a matter of weeks, the federal stimulus package will reinvigorate New Jerseys economy and mitigate the impacts of the national recession,” Gov. Jon Corzine said in a prepared statement.

The most expensive allocation is $130 million toward the new Hudson River rail tunnel. There’s more than $67 million for painting 90 bridges, all told.

The funds will support 40 DOT projects and 16 NJ Transit projects. Those costing at least $5 million include, but aren’t limited to:

— Resurfacing of Route 30 in Hammonton and Mullica Township in Atlantic County, $5.9 million.

— Pavement rehabilitation and bridge deck replacements along eight miles of Interstate 295, between Route 45 and Berlin-Haddonfield Road in Camden and Gloucester counties, $80 million.
