The Atlantic County Office of Emergency Preparedness is asking motorists to avoid driving through Hammonton because of extremely poor visibility and smoke conditions from the Wharton State Forest fire.

Route 206 is closed again in both directions between Rt. 30 in Hammonton and Atison Road in Shamong Township, less than 24 hours after it was reopened. Hammonton schools are also closed.

Officials are urging residents to stay indoors with the windows closed. People with respiratory issues should contact their physician.
