From The Press of Atlantic City — City Council postponed a final decision on whether to eliminate tax abatements for businesses Thursday night, a measure several officials had expected to pass easily.
Councilman Doug Dickinson, who chairs the committee that first examined the bill, said local lawmakers realized they had been overlooking the bill’s potential impact on downtown businesses. The discussion had always been about the uptown industrial park, Dickinson said, but the ordinance does not specify that.
Several residents contacted city government to raise objections during the day Thursday. The public hearing has been rescheduled for the next council meeting, Aug. 28.
