From The Press of Atlantic City — Mullica Township will have two teams representing Atlantic County in state Babe Ruth softball competition.

Mullica’s 12-and-under team will compete in Hamilton Township, Mercer County, beginning Thursday.

Mullica defeated Galloway Township 18-3 on Friday in a must-win game. Sydney Seney pitched for Mullica, striking out four. Shannon Fletcher went 3-for-3, including a triple, with three RBIs. Amanda Fletcher also went 3-for-3, including a double and a triple. She finished with four RBIs.

Galloway also will participate in the 12-and-under state tournament.

Mullica’s 14-and-under team will compete in a state tournament that begins Thursday in Waretown.

Mullica split two games with Egg Harbor Township to qualify for states. Mullica beat EHT 5-1 to force a second game. Marlee Seymour struck out nine to earn the win. Shannon Stevens was 3-for-3 and Erica Pillalis 2-for-3, including a double.

EHT bounced back to win the final game 4-3. Stevens had three hits for Mullica, and Kaylyn Lockwood and Chelsey Peterson had two each.

Mullica Township’s catchers threw out nine runners in the two games. Brianna Sprague threw out four in the first game and Pillalis caught five trying to steal in the second game.
